There are two ways to upload your web pages to your web servers.

• One is to use File Manager from your hosting control panel.
• Two is to use FTP program.

The first way is better secured, but it take long time to upload many web pages at a time.

The second way is also secured, and it easier to upload many pages at a time.

I like using the second way. How about you?

Here we’ll discuss about using FTP program for uploading your files to your web server.

First, you need to have FTP program installed in your computer.

If you don’t have, you can get it at http://www.filezilla-project.org

Download the Filezilla Client and install it.

Below are the steps to upload your web pages using FTP program.

1. Open Filezilla program

2. Type the hostname, user name and password and the click Quickconnect button next to it.

• The host name is usually: ftp.youdoamin.com
• For the user name and password, you always get them when you sign up for web hosting company. Look in the first email you get from your web hosting company, it’s always there. Click here to see the screen shot from my computer.

3. From remote site box, choose public_html folder

4. From local site box, choose and select files (or folders) you want to upload.

For example, we want to upload index.html to public_html folder.

5. After selecting the files (or folders), just drag it to the public_html folder on the server site.

Then it will upload to the server.

Repeat these steps for uploading other files or folder.

After you use FTP program a few times, you will use to it. And feel that it’s easy to use.

For example, you plan to start creating a website. Simply, you need two things, the domain name and web hosting.

Domain name is just the name, e.g. www.dog-training-at-home.com That’s domain name.

But you want people to see your web site, right?

If you have only domain name, you cannot show the world about your web site. That’s why you need hosting.

When you create some web pages in your computer, you will upload or transfer them into a server hard drive. And this server space is call web hosting.

After you upload web pages to your web server, your web site is ready for other people to see.

Then, when people type www.dog-training-at-home.com in web browser, they will see your web pages that you have uploaded.
